REVIEWER: ASHLEE STORMBORN
Motorcrush is my new crush, this comic is like Speed Racer, Tron, and your favorite racing game had a beautiful genetically modified love child. And that would be this comic, like the lead Domino, a very interesting character and also a woman of color starts off this comic with goals and a few secrets. It has a good Scooby Doo mystery type vibe as she’s trying to find out about her past but also keep her future and goals intact. She races motorcycles and she’s up and coming on the scene but she also has some interesting extracurricular activities when she’s not racing, and those I’ll leave for you as you dive into this comic to find out.
The heartwarming part of this comic outside of the amazing action is the connections between the characters. She has her dad (you can’t beat a great pops in a series, you know, the he’s not your dad but he’s your daddy type) and her friend and former partner Lola (I honestly love her) and her partner robot. There’s also an ever moving door of third tier characters that keep the story moving. For a female lead comic this one is really amazing, it’s not fill magical girl but she’s special, like super spy possibly a type of genetic mutation type of special. In this world they have their vices, which one of them is called crush, which Domino unlike normal folks can tolerate higher dosages and not die, and along with not dying, something happens! She doesn’t know why or what happens. And sorry neither do I yet. But from reading the first couple of volumes of this series I can’t wait to find out. I am probably as excited as her to find out what she is or can do. But with all these cool abilities she’s still human, with connecting with friends and family issues, I definitely want to see her and Lola reconnect or keep their relationship going. And Lola is an amazingly smart sidekick, she’s the techie to Domino’s action hero, and she’s pretty gorgeous which I like. You can be pretty and tech savvy.
The artstyle is really nice. Kind of gritty with a divine splash of color. The plot leaves me honestly itching for the next fix of an edition. The balance it has of action and down time is also nice. It’s not all one or the other and they flow along the winding road of this story beautifully. Like grab a helmet and hold on tight Motorcrush, will be your new crush too and you’ll be thanking for the new comic addiction.
